Just installed a port of Android to my VZW TP2. Works pretty well. Even have the CPU overclocked from the default 568 MHz to 724 MHz. Not sure if it is really overclocked or not (its just a setting), but the interface does run a little smoother.
Phone calls: working
SMS: Working
MMS: not tested
Data: Working
Gmail integration: working
Ringtones: not working (this is a known bug, have to set phone to vibrate to identify incoming calls)
Android marketplace: working
I take it you have to unlock the phone first before you can run Android? I'm missin all the good stuff because I can't unlock it.
no unlock needed. it is not a rom flash. copy files to sd card and run executable from file explorer. windows gets shut down and android loads in about two minutes. I can provide links to the files if you want to try.
Think I got it. PPCGeeks has a big thread on it. Checking it out. I read up on the OC thing. Some dude claimed he was able to OC to 1GHZ. I have my doubts on that one.
Couple Q's for you. When you run it, and WM shuts down. Do you get windows back after you shut Android back down?
Can you do a *228 and get service , and will the service still work on WM?
i dont think you need to do *228 . cuz you aint flashing the pnone
Correct on the #228. Of course you have to get the correct files. There are different versions for the different carriers. If you get the correct one, it should already have the provisions for your carrier.
When you shut down Android, it causes the phone to do a soft reset and will boot up into WM. There is an option I've seen that will allow you to pick which OS to load at boot, just like a multi-boot on the PC. I just have mine go to WM, since that is what I use most often. The Android is just for fun right now. It still can't communicate with the rest of the phone hardware so it's not very useful now.
The version of Android I loaded was taken from the Nexus One. Although that phone was made by HTC, the hardware wasn't compatible. Hopefully, when the Incredible comes out, the guys working on this can figure out how to get the hardware working.
Until then, I won't even consider flashing the ROM. I'll upload a video of my phone in the next few days showing the transition from WM to Android.
Here's the big thread over at PPCGeeks ---->
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=115443
cflynt & Mackie are the primary contributors. There are constant updates... as of now and I quote Mackie
"
04.19.2010 uploaded, contains a new rootfs.img, modules file, and zImage. " That is the latest update. He has been cabbing them up so to make it easy to copy the files over the old ones. I don't know if this is the same version of Android that you have though. Going to try it soon. Can't wait till sound is 100% working

I have been using the one from Mackie. I tried another package but couldn't get it to work. Mackie's installed with no problems. I have the 4/16 version. Didn't check the updates over the weekend. I'll update to the latest. Wish he had a change log.
He does have a change log. Check his page for the changes made in every release. He has made a note of that several times.
And please dont be one of those people that keep asking "When will the sound work? I need it for games an apps "

. That annoys me. THEY dont even know when the sound will work. It's a WIP.. and its free, cant argue with that.
Fro the change log I was referring to Mackie. He is basically packaging up the files from other developers and making it available as 1 download. I was hoping for a change log from package to package. I know there is a change log from the actual developers, a summary of the changes in the package he(Mackie) provided would have been good. Not really a big deal, I'm gonna try all the build anyways.
No, I am not the type to whine for updates. I've developed my share of mods and hacks and know that these developers have lives outside of their devices. If I wanted an Android phone I would have gotten one. This is just for fun so if they get it working, great, if not, oh well.
Another package update for 4-20, just FYI
I have seen the thread on PPC Geeks and haven't been paying much attention, didn't know they got this far. I wonder if will work on the Imagio? Have you tried it COPS?
Nope, haven't tried it yet. I'm sure it will work on the Imagio. It's the same phone without a keyboard pretty much. No harm in asking tho. I can do that cause i'm registered over there. Might be a thread on it in the Imagio section. Lemme look.
EDIT -
Yup, it's working on Imagio, though not as far ahead in progress. I think phone is working for some. SMS, GPS etc don't work yet. Not many working on it, if..
Here take a look

android buen sistema operativo que esta guay del paraguay.
I don't know if any of you have been paying attention to the Android thread over at PPCGeeks but Mackie is no longer packaging up the updates. 4-20 was the last one he did. It sucks.. yeah, well the guys got a life to live so.. anyways the updates are still coming through, you just have to get them separately from the devs home update pages. When I get around to it, I'll toss up some links here.
